Working Together to Build a Foundation for Implementation of the 2016 MA Science and Technology/Engineering Curriculum Framework
In their first collaborative initiative, the Museum Institute for Teaching Science (MITS) and the Massachusetts Science Education Leadership Association (MSELA) introduced science leaders and educators to the 2016 Massachusetts Science and Technology/Engineering Curriculum Framework on November 10 at the Broad Meadow Brook Conservation Center and Wildlife Sanctuary in Worcester.
The focus of this half-day workshop was to help school leaders with the initial stepsof implementation of the Massachusetts revised standards. Using activities, group discussions, and networking opportunities, participants investigated the differences in the 2006 and 2016 standards, examined the vertical progressions of the eight Science and Engineering Practices, and explored the challenges facing educators and districts. Representatives from two districts, Franklin Public Schools and Newton Public Schools, explained their approaches to implementation and described their progress to date. With the goal of supporting implementation of the 2016 Massachusetts Science and Technology/Engineering Curriculum Framework, MITS and MSELA will be using participants’ input and feedback to develop future workshops and networking opportunities across the state.
